By Andy Davis. Back in 2008 Andrew James threw out his career in web design and has been firmly pluck went on a career in music ever since. He gained attention with the colab with Gary Thomas called cabin in the Forest, a few years back and has since gone solo. In 2010, Aron Turest-Swartz (formerly of Freshlyground from South Africa) introduced him to James Van Minnen, and they end up working with Aron on their first album, red in tooth and claw. We spoke to Andrew James on money, art and became a swamp folk, roots rock outfit, steeped in americana influences while staying in the Vredehoek.
Andy Davis: Nice album. I hear a lot of influence on it, from the John Butler Trio of Dave Matthews and so on, but much of it on your own. Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
Andrew James: In about the year: Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Nirvana, Pearl Jam
I have always felt that a cabin in the Forest as two mewling alleycats. Often looks like you guys were playing independently of each other, like trying to one-up each other. Is that assumption correct? Do you have a very competitive relationship with Gary Thomas? Why did You break up?
